Milestones Behavioral Technicians (BT) and Registered Behavioral Technicians (RBT) are extensively trained to work with your child in your home, school, or out in the community (e.g. stores, parks, etc.). BT/RBTs continue to receive ongoing training in Applied Behavior Analysis principles and teaching strategies with a focus on Naturalistic Environmental Teaching (NET); Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT); Pivotal Response Training (PRT); and Floortime. Since every child is different, BTs/RBTs are provided ongoing support and training from their supervisors to effectively address behaviors and teach necessary skills.
BT/RBTs are trained to implement behavior change strategies to help decrease maladaptive behaviors. They collaborate with the clinical and program supervisors, parent consultant, and parents/caregivers to provide effective and efficient treatment.
BT/RBTs conduct their sessions to target behavior reduction goals, work towards developing appropriate replacement behaviors, and teach skill acquisition goals. These goals are initially created during the time of the Functional Behavioral Assessment. When providing school support, the targeted goals will come from a student's Individual Education Plan (IEP). Each family's program is highly individualized with measurable goals. These goals address, for example, adaptive behavior domains in the area of communication, daily living skills, and socialization.
The supervisor for your case will visit your home frequently to oversee your child’s program by measuring progress, analyzing behaviors, and will provide ongoing support to the team and family.
Services will be provided by trained technicians while in the home and community. Home based services target functional communication skills so our learners can access their preferred items/activities without engaging in behavioral excesses such as tantrums or aggression or they may teach communication skills in order to terminate or avoid non-preferred activities without engaging in behaviors.
We aim at teaching your child to be flexible in their environment, to be flexible with daily routines (e.g. going to the market; hospital; transitioning between preferred and non-preferred activities), learn daily living self-care skills, in addition to safety skills. Ultimately, the areas that could trigger maladaptive behaviors would be addressed so your child would learn to engage in more appropriate behaviors instead.
We recognize that every family has a story; therefore, our programs are individualized to meet your family's specific needs.
As a Non-Public Agency (NPA), Milestones Behavioral Care is certified under the California Department of Education and can support your child's inclusion in school, and provide support within the special class they are enrolled in. Our school based support includes the following services:
Due to the recent changes since Covid-19, services could be held in the school or via distance learning formats depending on the student's needs documented in the IEP.
Parent involvement and participation is the cornerstone of a child’s progress, thus, Milestones strives to empower parents with the necessary tools to teach their children valuable skills and to address maladaptive behaviors. When parents are well equipped with the appropriate tools, we believe a child’s progress in relation to their skill development and maladaptive behaviors are improved greatly.
Parent education is an integral component of our services and it is essential that parents continue to teach and address behaviors outside of therapy. It is critical that parents learn ABA principles to also help reduce the possibility of regression. To ensure this, parents are taught ABA strategies to effectively teach necessary skills, eliminate behavioral excesses, and manipulate environments to help address maladaptive behaviors and facilitate learning at home and also in the community. During parent consultations, Milestones focuses on:
The goal is to teach ABA principals to the parents/caregivers so they can apply the principles/strategies with their children to teach and address their concerns effectively.
Telehealth is the delivery of behavioral health services using interactive technologies (e.g. use of audio, video, or other electronic communications) between an ABA provider and a client/parent who are not in the same location.
Telehealth may be used for:
Telehealth may be a viable option during these uncertain times to continue to receive services safely and remotely. Our staff are trained to deliver services via telehealth for continued care without interruption during these unprecedented times.
